Why does my water bill change every year?

The water industry regulator Ofwat set a price formula to limit charge increases each year, the formula takes into account inflation and the investments we have to make each year to meet UK and EU standards. Our plan is that average Yorkshire Water bills will move in line with inflation. Over the next five years we plan to keep water bills as low as possible.

Will my water bill go up in 2018-2019?

Charge increases in 2018-2019 will be dependent on the level of inflation. We have published charges with our assurance statement for 2018/19 and we believe they offer good value for money. We consulted customers and 98% thought our five year plans represented value for money and our charges reflect agreed revenue controls put in place.

We have an investment programme underway which aims to deliver major improvements to our network to ensure we can face challenges like population growth and climate change while continuing to provide you with the best possible service. We are spending £3.8 billion across the region between 2015 and 2020 to deliver better water and sewerage services.

The investment means you will receive an even more reliable and responsive service, cleaner rivers and continue work to tackle issues such as sewer flooding, leakage and pollution.

How does inflation affect my bill?

Like any other services we are affected by changes in inflation. We know that between 2015 and 2020 our costs to deliver our services will go up. For example increasing energy prices and the cost of resources such as fuel and chemicals which will have an impact on bills.
